Sweet Canada

-Spruce Grove at 6 AM, Apr 23 2023-
2

Crank it to 11 on this one to experience what it’s like as White-throated Sparrows stage for migration to their northern breeding grounds. Toward the end, note the cadence of a Mourning Dove that almost seems in synch with the white-throats.

We’re at the top of Brush Mountain looking northeast toward Nittany Valley. The temperature is in the upper thirties. On both sides and behind, a 45-year-old Norway Spruce forest is filled to bursting with sparrows and doves, while in a few more minutes, Red-breasted Nuthatches will begin their dawn songs as these ones fade away.

See if you can catch the other singers: Tufted Titmouse, Northern Cardinal, Golden-crowned Kinglet, White-breasted Nuthatch.
